In August 2004, Cornerstone Schools hosted the inaugural Turning Point Invitational (TPI) to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Arnold Palmer’s US Amateur win at the Country Club of Detroit. The TPI laid the foundation for building a community of friends to create turning points in the lives of Cornerstone students.
This year marks the 18th TPI and the launch of Cornerstone’s football program. The news that the football season is starting this August was met with great enthusiasm as over seventy young men showed up to practice and try out for the team.
Cornerstone hired Marcus Green, a native Detroiter and former member of the Penn State University football team, to develop the football program and lead the coaching staff. Coach Green is committed to cultivating young men who embody Cornerstone’s high-standards and uphold its mission. As student athletes, they will inspire the entire student body to seek excellence in all they do and to grow in the Complete Life.
Cornerstone provides students the tools to lead fulfilling lives through an excellent education, a foundation of strong character, meaningful relationships, and real-world experiences. We encourage our broad and beloved Cornerstone community to live a Complete Life.
According to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., the Complete Life is one of three dimensions: length, to live for a purpose born; breadth, to be a person for others; and height, to know God. As stated in the Cornerstone Student Handbook, “Cornerstone seeks, within the full bounds of our constitutional responsibilities and guidelines, to encourage and make possible such a life for ourselves, our families, and our students. The Complete Life is a virtuous life.”
Building the football program from the ground up will require significant resources. Support from the TPI will provide funding to meet the need including: footballs, helmets, jerseys, weight room equipment, game day blazers and ties, and more.
